Prostate Cancer
For patients with a diagnosis of prostate cancer, Jordan Hospital’s Prostate Cancer Program offers patients the most advanced treatment options south of Boston. The multi-disciplinary program brings together Urologists Craig Gillard, MD; Ted Morgan, MD; and Radiation Oncologist H. Joseph Barthold, III, MD, to provide patients with a team-centered approach to care. Together, the team has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
Prostate brachytherapy—the implanting of small radioactive “seeds” within the prostate—offers an alternative to surgical removal of the prostate gland for cancer treatment. With excellent long-term success rates and limited side effects, this option is rapidly growing in popularity due to its effectiveness and convenience. Recent studies show that after brachytherapy, 87% of men with early stage disease were cancer free 15 years after their treatment.
The brachytherapy suite at the Jordan Hospital Cancer Center is equipped with modern, 3-D ultrasound technology. This provides the kind of visualization that allows for the radioactive seeds to be placed with extreme precision within the prostate gland. Patients benefit from the most accurate dose calculation and delivery available today.
